Creating bills of materials

To create a bill of materials (BOM):

  1. Do either of the following:
    • Go to Production. Then, under Catalogs, click Bills of materials.
    • Go to the Products catalog. Then, double-click a product line, and in the product card's link bar, click Bills of materials.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Specify general details:
    • Enter Description of the BOM.
    • Select Finished product to which the BOM will apply.
    • Set Process type to one of the following:
      • Assembly, if the product is assembled from components without processing them in any way.
      • Production, if the product is manufactured from components in a sequence of operations.
      • Disassembly, if the product is disassembled into components.
    • Select the Advanced settings checkbox if you want to create a multi-variant BOM.

      This checkbox is only available if accounting by variants is enabled and applies to the finished product (in the product's product card, the Variants checkbox is selected on the Additional data tab).

    • Fill in or edit the remaining fields as necessary.
  4. Specify routing details (a list of operations to be completed during production):
    • To add the routing details manually, click Add and fill in the details.
    • To fill in the routing details automatically from a routing template, click Fill from template, select a routing template, and click Select.
      This step only applies if Process type is Production.
  5. Specify components to be consumed during production or created during disassembly:
    • To import a component list from a spreadsheet file, click import_from_file.png and follow the data import wizard instructions.
    • To add components manually, click Add and fill in component details.
  6. Optional: Specify by-products if any are created during production.
    This step only applies if Process type is Production.
  7. Click Save and close.
