To learn about the general details of a bill of materials, see the following table:

Field Description
Description Short name or description of the BOM.
Finished product One of the following:
  • For Assembly process type, a product assembled from the components listed in the BOM.
  • For Disassembly process type, a product disassembled into components listed in the BOM.
  • For Production process type, a product manufactured from the components listed in the BOM.
Quantity A finished product's quantity and unit of measure.
Quantities of BOM operations, components, and by-products are relative to the product's quantity. For example, a BOM includes a product's quantity of 100 and a component's quantity of 1000. This means that:
  • 1000 components are required to manufacture 100 products.
  • 1000 components are created from disassembly of 100 products.
Status A BOM’s lifecycle status. For details, see Monitoring and changing bill of materials statuses.
Valid from..to A BOM’s validity period. While this period is in effect, you can specify the BOM in business documents if the BOM status is Active.

To specify the validity period, do any of the following:
  • To specify the period start date or end date, click for either date.
  • To quickly specify the entire period, click .

Advanced settings Select this checkbox if you want to create a multi-variant BOM to automatically pick components for each product variant.
For example, a BOM that specifies black paint for a black table, yellow paint for a yellow table, and so on.
This checkbox is only available if Accounting by variants is enabled and applies to the finished product (in the finished product's card, the Variants checkbox is selected on the Additional data tab).

This field is only editable if the Advanced settings checkbox above is cleared.
Process type The production process type that a BOM applies to. One of the following:
