Bill of materials overview
A bill of materials (BOM) is a list of components, operations, and their details (including the quantities of each) needed to manufacture, assemble, or disassemble a finished product.
For example, a BOM for manufacturing a sofa can include the following operations and components:
Operation | Component |
---|---|
Building a frame | Wood |
Stuffing | Polyester |
Applying covering | Nylon |
If a product has multiple variants, there's no need to create a separate BOM for each one. Instead, you can create a single rule-based BOM that automatically determines the components and operations required to manufacture each variant of the product. For example, a BOM that automatically selects black paint for a black table, yellow paint for a yellow table, and so on.
To learn more, see Multi-variant bills of materials.
In 1C:Drive, a BOM can be used in the following processes:
Process | Purpose |
---|---|
Assembly | Provide a list of components consumed to assemble a finished product. |
Disassembly | Provide a list of components received from disassembling a finished product. |
Production | Provide a list of components consumed and operations completed to manufacture a finished product. |
Subcontracting services provided | Provide a list of components consumed and operations completed to manufacture a finished product. |
Service-to-cash | Provide a list of components consumed and operations completed to provide a service. |
1C:Drive stores all BOMs in the Bills of materials catalog. To open it:
- Go to Production.
- Under Catalogs, click Bills of materials.
In this catalog, you can:
- View bills of materials.
- Create bills of materials.
- Monitor and change BOM statuses
- Edit bills of materials.
- Specify the main bill of materials.
For the detailed description of BOM fields, see Bill of materials fields.
