Adding project phases
You can add project phases and subphases to schedule a project and define its work breakdown structure (WBS). You can do this when a project has the Open or In progress status.
To add a project phase:
- Go to Company.
- Under Project management, click Projects.
- In the Projects catalog, do any of the following:
- Select a project line where Status is Open or In progress . Then click Project workplace.
- Double-click a project line where Status is Open or In progress . Then, in the project details window, click Project workplace.
- In the project workplace, in the View mode field, select Planning.
- Click Add and specify the following:
Field Description Phase A phase name. Start The planned start date of a project phase. By default, it is prefilled with the planned start date of the project. You can change the prefilled date. Duration A project phase duration in the duration units specified in the project settings. By default, it is prefilled with 1 duration unit. You can change it. End The planned end date of a project phase. It is calculated automatically according to the specified planned start date and duration of a project, and the work schedule if it is specified in the project settings. Previous phase The project phase that must be completed before this project phase can start. Assignee A person responsible for the project phase completion.
This person will be the default assignee of the project tasks created for this project phase.
Repeat step 5 to add as many project phases as you need.
You might add consecutive phases and need to specify the previous phase for each of them. In this case, instead of clicking Add, you can right-click a phase line and select Add next. This adds a new line where the previous phase is prefilled with the phase you selected Add next for. So you can save your time on phase input.
To add a subphase:
- Right-click a phase line.
- From the drop-down menu, select Add subordinate.
- In the added line, specify the subphase details in the same way as for a phase.
Repeat these steps to add as many subphases as you need. You can add subphases for any phase or subphase.
In the project workplace, all phases that have subphases are shown in the bold font. For each phase and subphase, the work breakdown structure code (Code WBS) is shown. Сode WBS indicates a phase position in the work breakdown structure. It is assigned automatically depending on the phase level and order. For example, add the first phase and its subphase. Then, the phase Code WBS is 1 and the subphase Code WBS is 1.1.
After you finish adding phases and subphases, you can rearrange them to if required. For details, see Rearranging work breakdown structure.
