Operations tab

<< Prev   Next >>

The Operations tab of a work-in-progress document contains the list of operations to be completed during production.

To learn about the Operations tab fields, see the following table.

Field Description
Done Indicates whether an operation is completed.
Start date Start date of an operation.
Finish date End date of an operation.
Operation An operation name or short description.
The list of values is based on the Operations catalog.
Quantity The number of times an operation needs to be completed.
When you import operations from a bill of materials (BOM), Quantity is calculated by one of the following formulas:
  • If Unit is a base unit, then
Quantity = an operation Quantity from BOM × product Quantity
  • If Unit is an additional unit, then
Quantity = an operation Quantity from BOM × product Quantity × conversion rate of an additional unit
  • If Calculation method is set to Fixed for an operation in BOM, then
Quantity = an operation Quantity from BOM
Standard time The amount of time planned for an operation, and the unit of measurement. For example, 15 minutes.
It is automatically filled from the operation's card in the Operations catalog. It is read-only.
It is required for production planning.
Operation sequence number Sequence number of the operation in the production process.
Operation with sequence number 1 is always first in the production process.
Multiple operations can have the same sequence number. For example, you can have two operations with sequence number 1, so that both of them start first in the production process, one of them followed by operation 2 and the other followed by operation 3.
Followed by Sequence number of the operations following this operation.
Workload The amount of work planned for an operation. A unit of work depends on the cost driver specified for the operation's cost pool. For example, units can be man hours.
It is filled in automatically from a bill of materials if you import operations from a bill of materials.
It is required for calculating the cost of an operation.
Rate A manufacturing overhead rate for manufacturing overhead allocation.
It automatically comes from a company's or a department's predetermined overhead rates, depending on the allocation method specified for the company.
To view a detailed table of manufacturing overhead rates applied to an operation, double-click the rate.
Total The total amount of work planned for an operation. A unit of work depends on the cost driver specified for the operation's cost pool. For example, units can be man hours.
It is automatically calculated by the following formula:
Total = An operation Quantity × Standard workload × Rate
It is used for reference purpose only.
GL account A GL account for recording operation costs.
It is available if the default accounting is applied (Use default type of accounting is selected in Settings > Company).
