Physical bin location system

<< Prev   Next >>

You can set it up only for warehouses with configured Basic warehouse operations.

For a bin location warehouse or wareroom, define warehouse areas, enable physical storage bins, define storage areas, and configure picking and put-away strategies.

Activate Use for storage of remaining products

Here you can activate the physical bin location system for the warehouse/wareroom.

With this warehouse/wareroom management option:

  • Goods are stored in storage bins, and inventory is recorded by each storage bin.
  • Accounting in measurement units and packaging is available.
  • You can immediately get accurate data on the quantity of goods stored in a certain storage bin.
  • Search for goods at a warehouse takes minimal time.
  • Automatic item put-away to storage bins is supported. It takes into account both item characteristics (storage conditions, retention periods, and sizes) and warehouse characteristics (number of bins, standard bin size, and so on.)
  • You can put items away into suitable bins in accordance with their packaging unit sizes.
  • The system checks whether the storage bins are filled, automatically defines empty storage bins in accordance with the storage area specified for the item and the warehouse group it belongs to.
  • Warehouse space is optimally used as goods are automatically put away into storage bins in accordance with the specified put-away rules.
  • You can carry out physical inventory count without stopping the warehouse operations.
  • You can use the Mobile warehouse keeper workplace to automate warehouse operations (put-away, picking, transfer, inventory count, and so on).

Storage areas catalog

Here you can create a list of storage areas for a warehouse or a wareroom.

A storage area is a part of a warehouse territory or a part of a wareroom whose storage bins are grouped by the same storage conditions. For example, when you store food, you keep fresh vegetables, dairy products, and frozen products in separate storage areas.

For each storage area at the warehouse, define a list of warehouse group of items and warehouse group of packaging units that meet this storage area conditions. You can define several storage locations with different priorities for the same warehouse group of items.

When you register put-away strategies, provide information about storage areas, warehouse groups of products, and warehouse groups of packaging units.

See also Put-away strategies catalog.

How to create a storage area for a warehouse or a wareroom

1. Open the catalog and then open a warehouse card. Instead, you can click Warerooms and open a wareroom card.

2. Find Storage areas and click Create.

3. Fill the Description and Details fields.

4. Select Bin use is defined by picking and put-away strategies.

5. Under On placement, select use put-away priorities. Specify put-away priorities for each bin type: the smaller the number (integer), the higher the priority.

Note

The other option is single product bins only. In this case, goods are put away into single product bins or empty bins.Picking and put-away priorities identify how to use bins in each storage area. They can be either single product or mixed in different variations. Goods can first be put away to empty storage bins, then to bins with the same items, then to bins with other goods, and so on.

6. Select whether a single product bin is defined:

  • By items
  • By item and variant
  • By item, variant, and batch

7. Specify picking priorities for each bin type.

Note

Picking priorities:

  • From single product bins. Goods are picked from bins containing exactly the same items with the same serial number, expiration date, and so on.
  • From mixed storage bins. Goods are picked from bins containing other items as well.
  • Against remaining stock. Goods are picked from bins containing the minimal number of these items.

Activate warehouse areas

Activate warehouse areas for a warehouse or a wareroom.

A warehouse area is a storage area whose storage bins are grouped by storage area operating procedure. For example, a forklift truck area, a high-rise stackers area, an area where a picker picks goods manually, and so on.

Warehouse areas allow you to divide warehouse territories or warerooms to better organize picking and put-away operations across a warehouse or a wareroom.

You can use warehouse areas only for the warehouse or the wareroom where accounting is kept by storage bins.

When you create put-away and picking tasks, warehouse areas are required.

How to create bins using the wizard

1. Open the workplace and in the Settings section, select Warehouse and Wareroom.

2. Select a Storage bin type based on the nature of storage bins being created.

Note

The following storage bin types are supported:

  • Storage. Main storage area. Bins of this type are used for goods put-away and picking.
  • Archive. No longer used bins (for example, due to warehouse rearrangement). Goods cannot be put away to such bins but can be picked from them.

3. In the Location section, select bin location dimensions used at the warehouse (Sections, Lines, Racks, Tiers, and Positions).

4. For each dimension, fill the required parameters to create the structure and IDs of bins.

Note

For correct sorting of numeric storage bins in the workplace, select characters in the Number type field, select the Fixed length check box, and specify the number of characters for the fixed length. This will ensure correct sorting of numeric bins. The system automatically adds the required number of leading zeros to the number in the Sample field based on the fixed length value. The Sample field displays the sample of the eventual bin number. The number sample is generated according to the fixed length, separator, number type, and values specified in the Digit range fields.Check the Number of bins for automatic creation.

5. Click Preview and check the future Warehouse topology. If the bin structure is already created, select the Update existing ones check box to be able to add a warehouse area (storage area, standard size, and so on) to a storage bin.

6. Click Create structure. The system automatically creates a list of bins and bin groups according to the set rules.

Keep the Storage bins catalog manually

Here you can manually create bin structure.

Each bin has a unique address in the warehouse (wareroom). This address is specified in the storage bin card.

Addressing principles are the same for the reference and bin location system.

How to create storage bin groups

1. Open the catalog, open a warehouse card, and click Storage bins. Instead, you can click Warerooms, open a wareroom card, and click Storage bins.

2. Click Create group, fill a parent catalog item, and fill the Location and Details fields.

How to create a storage bin

1. Open the catalog, open a warehouse card, and click Storage bins. Instead, you can click Warerooms, open a wareroom card, go to Storage bins, click Create, and fill a parent catalog item.

2. Select a Storage bin type based on the nature of storage bins being created.

Note

The following storage bin types are supported:

  • Storage. Main storage area. Bins of this type are used for goods put-away and picking.
  • Inbound. Area where goods are kept before being allocated among storage bins. When put-away is registered, goods are moved from the Inbound area to the Storage area.
  • Outbound. Area where goods are kept before being shipped. Goods are moved there from the Storage area.
  • Archive. No longer used bins (for example, due to warehouse rearrangement). Goods cannot be put away to such bins but can be picked from them.

Storage bins of the Storage, Inbound, or Outbound types must be always specified. Using bins of the Archive type is optional.

3. Specify location dimensions of bins (Sections, Lines, Racks, Tiers, and Positions), specify their Separator and Details. Check the ID in the Location field.

Note

When you generate a bin address, you can specify the maximum of five structure units:

  • Section. Storage area that can include multiple lines.
  • Line. Aisle between bin sections or one side of a rack.
  • Rack. Stand with shelves.
  • Tier (shelf with items). One or several rows one above the other.
  • Position.

In the application, bins located at different warerooms of one warehouse belong to one address database. So, it is recommended that you use different section numbers in different warerooms.

4. Define the Standard size, Warehouse area, and Storage area. Select and specify Filling by weight, Filling by volume, Availability level, and Tour procedure, if applicable.

Note

To optimize the route of warehouse workers when they put away or pick goods, you can assign a specific tour procedure number to each storage bin. Tour procedure is used to create a certain sequence according to which storage bins will be processed. Bins are sorted in the put-away/picking task according to the tour procedure order. Bins are sorted in the ascending order. If tour procedure order values are the same, the system sorts bins based on their address.
