Reference bin location system
Here you will learn how to set up required system objects to manage the reference bin location system.
Storage bins are used as information sources to simplify the process of goods put-away and picking. However, inventory is recorded by the entire warehouse or wareroom. This method is convenient when bins contain only one type of goods. This way, it is easier to find goods to be shipped.
When there are several warerooms in one warehouse, reference storage bins are set up for each wareroom.
Warehouses and stores / Warerooms catalog: reference bin location system
At this step, you need to activate the reference bin location system.

How to activate the reference bin location system for a warehouse
1. Open the catalog and then open a warehouse card. Instead, you can go to the Warerooms panel and open a wareroom card.
2. Click More actions → Allow attribute editing, select required options, and click Allow editing.
3. Click the Warehouse management parameters tab and select warehouse accounting broken down by bins in the Storage bins: Use bin location system field.
Standard sizes of storage bins catalog
Here you can define standard sizes for all active storage bins at a warehouse.
Paths
Path | Warehouse and delivery → Settings and catalogs → Warehouse → Standard sizes of storage bins |
---|---|
In-app link EN code | e1cib/list/Catalog.StandardSizesOfStorageBins |
In-app link RU code | e1cib/list/Справочник.ТипоразмерыЯчеек |
How to create a standard storage bin size
1. Open the catalog and click Create.
2. Fill the Description field.
3. Specify the bin Size: height, width, depth. Check the automatic Volume calculation. Specify the Carrying capacity value.
Note
You can also specify that a standard size is not limited by size and carrying capacity.
Keep the Storage bins catalog using a wizard
Here you can create a storage bin structure. To generate a list of storage bins, use the Warehouse topology generation workplace. It allows you to generate multiple bins for a warehouse (wareroom) at once and assign multiple parameters at once (for example, warehouse area, storage area, availability level, standard size, and so on).
Paths
Path | Warehouse and delivery → Tools → Warehouse topology generation |
---|---|

How to create bins using the wizard
1. Open the workplace and in the Settings section, select Warehouse and Wareroom.
2. Select a Storage bin type based on the nature of storage bins being created.
Note
The following storage bin types are supported:
- Storage. Main storage area. Bins of this type are used for goods put-away and picking.
- Archive. No longer used bins (for example, due to warehouse rearrangement). Goods cannot be put away to such bins but can be picked from them.
3. In the Location section, select bin location dimensions used at the warehouse (Sections, Lines, Racks, Tiers, and Positions).
4. For each dimension, fill the required parameters to create the structure and IDs of bins.
Note
For correct sorting of numeric storage bins in the workplace, select characters in the Number type field, select the Fixed length check box, and specify the number of characters for the fixed length. This will ensure correct sorting of numeric bins. The system automatically adds the required number of leading zeros to the number in the Sample field based on the fixed length value. The Sample field displays the sample of the eventual bin number. The number sample is generated according to the fixed length, separator, number type, and values specified in the Digit range fields.Check the Number of bins for automatic creation.
5. Click Preview and check the future Warehouse topology. If the bin structure is already created, select the Update existing ones check box to be able to add a warehouse area (storage area, standard size, and so on) to a storage bin.
6. Click Create structure. The system automatically creates a list of bins and bin groups according to the set rules.
Keep the Storage bins catalog manually
Here you can manually create bin structure.
Each bin has a unique address in the warehouse (wareroom). This address is specified in the storage bin card.
Addressing principles are the same for the reference and bin location system.

How to create storage bin groups
1. Open the catalog, open a warehouse card, and click Storage bins. Instead, you can click Warerooms, open a wareroom card, and click Storage bins.
2. Click Create group, fill a parent catalog item, and fill the Location and Details fields.
How to create a storage bin
1. Open the catalog, open a warehouse card, and click Storage bins. Instead, you can click Warerooms, open a wareroom card, go to Storage bins, click Create, and fill a parent catalog item.
2. Select a Storage bin type based on the nature of storage bins being created.
Note
The following storage bin types are supported:
- Storage. Main storage area. Bins of this type are used for goods put-away and picking.
- Inbound. Area where goods are kept before being allocated among storage bins. When put-away is registered, goods are moved from the Inbound area to the Storage area.
- Outbound. Area where goods are kept before being shipped. Goods are moved there from the Storage area.
- Archive. No longer used bins (for example, due to warehouse rearrangement). Goods cannot be put away to such bins but can be picked from them.
Storage bins of the Storage, Inbound, or Outbound types must be always specified. Using bins of the Archive type is optional.
3. Specify location dimensions of bins (Sections, Lines, Racks, Tiers, and Positions), specify their Separator and Details. Check the ID in the Location field.
Note
When you generate a bin address, you can specify the maximum of five structure units:
- Section. Storage area that can include multiple lines.
- Line. Aisle between bin sections or one side of a rack.
- Rack. Stand with shelves.
- Tier (shelf with items). One or several rows one above the other.
- Position.
In the application, bins located at different warerooms of one warehouse belong to one address database. So, it is recommended that you use different section numbers in different warerooms.
4. Define the Standard size, Warehouse area, and Storage area. Select and specify Filling by weight, Filling by volume, Availability level, and Tour procedure, if applicable.
Note
To optimize the route of warehouse workers when they put away or pick goods, you can assign a specific tour procedure number to each storage bin. Tour procedure is used to create a certain sequence, according to which storage bins will be processed. Bins are sorted in the put-away/picking task according to the tour procedure order. Bins are sorted in the ascending order. If tour procedure order values are the same, the system sorts bins based on their address.
