General wholesale terms

<< Prev   Next >>

Here you can find out how to activate and create the necessary system objects to manage wholesale marketing conditions.

A marketing strategy defines a business model and relies on business assumptions or conditions that answer numerous questions, including: What product to sell? Who sell the product to? At what price? and so on. When you develop a marketing strategy, you identify product segments, sales channels, transport and warehouse logistics, and payment terms.

As a rule, a marketing strategy is adopted for a certain period (quarter, year, or several years), depending on a strategic horizon. So, business assumptions have an appropriate time horizon and should be updated regularly as the strategy changes.

A system object called Standard terms of sales usually acts as a set of business assumptions that is a regular marketing strategy result for the upcoming horizon.

This instruction will help you to register wholesale marketing conditions. Firstly, you'll activate all the necessary functions and create auxiliary catalog items. Then you'll create a list of standard terms of sales.

Enable Customer segments

Here you can enable combining all customers into segments.

A segment is a set of items that meet the rules defined for the segment. It provides information on the items of this set. This usually reflects the segment purpose. For example, a segment can be a set of partners whose business region is A. One item can be included in several segments. Segment generation rules and segment presentation can use arbitrary information stored in the infobase and connected to the items included in the segment.

Afterwards you can define special sales rules for each customer segment.

How to create a new customer segment

1. Open the catalog and on the Common segments tab (if available), click Create.

2. Specify the Description and the Details

3. In the Generation method field, select Generate manually.

Note

There are several ways to generate segments:

  • Generate dynamically. Database tables do not store the item set, only its generation rules. The dynamic segment is generated every time you access it and is not stored in the infobase. Use such segments to get and view additional analytical partner data. You cannot use these segments to solve applied tasks, for example, to specify sales rules, provide discounts, marketing activities, and so on.
  • Update periodically. Item set is stored in the database tables and updated on the schedule specified in the scheduled job. To automatically generate segments in accordance with the generation rules, a scheduled job is used. When you save a segment, a scheduled job with a specified schedule is generated.
  • Generate manually. You can add or remove items from a segment. Before that, you can generate an item set according to the defined rules. You can automatically clear manually generated segments after a particular date. To clear manually generated segments on schedule, use the Segment clearance scheduled job.

4. Specify the Date created. To update the segment regularly, specify the Cleanup date.

You can specify a general price type in the following system objects: terms of sales, partners, retail formats, and warehouses. When registering sales documents, the system will automatically set prices according to the general price type specified in these system objects.

If you apply general and special price types simultaneously, the special price type will be used.

Standard terms of sales catalog

Here you can create a list of general marketing sales conditions.

Standard terms of sales are sets of generally accepted sales conditions that are used for the entire enterprise. Standard terms of sales contain a certain set of sales conditions. When you apply them together with special terms of sales, special terms of sales become a top priority.

The number of standard terms of sales usually depends on a marketing strategy and the diversity of general financial, logistic and commercial sales conditions applied across the enterprise.

A set of marketing sales conditions is applied to each customer segment (wholesale customers, dealers, distributors, and so on) and to each inventory segment. The system will control that such sales conditions are not applied to a customer who is not included in the customer segment or to an item that is not included in the inventory segment.

Using both standard terms of sales and segments allows you to dynamically change the sales rules for a specific customer or item in the following ways:

  • To change the sales rules, add a customer or an item to another segment.
  • To change the sales rules for all customers or items from a certain segment, change the standard terms of sales used for this segment.
