The Products tab of a credit note contains the list of the products returned by a customer. It is available if a credit note's Operation is Sales return.

The Products tab is populated from a credit note's Base document. The editable tab fields are the following:

  • Drop shipping
  • Serial numbers
  • Return quantity
  • Adjusted amount
  • COGS
  • Order
  • GL accounts
  • Income and expense items
  • Taxable

It is recommended to edit only the Return quantity and Adjusted amount fields.

Field Description
Shipped Indicates whether a product was shipped already. For a shipped product, a tick mark is shown. For example, this applies if Base document is a sales invoice where:
  • Invoice type is Invoice
  • Invoice type is Advance invoice and the sales invoice is based on a goods issue.
Product A product name.
The product list is based on the Products catalog.
Variant A product characteristic. For example, color or size.
The field is available if the Inventory accounting by variants checkbox is selected in Settings > Purchases/Warehouse.
Batch A product's batch description. It is used for tracking the product by batch.
The field is available if the Inventory accounting by batches checkbox is selected in Settings > Purchases/Warehouse.
Drop shipping Indicates whether the drop shipping method is applied to deliver a product to the customer. For details, see Drop shipping.
It is not recommended to select or clear the checkbox manually. This ensures that the products are issued and returned using the same shipping method.
The checkbox is available if the Use drop shipping checkbox is selected in Settings > Sales.
Serial numbers A product's serial number. It is used for tracking the product by serial number.
You can specify it if serial number tracking applies to the product (the Serial numbers checkbox is selected on the product card).
The field is available if the Use product serial numbers checkbox is selected in Settings > Purchases / Warehouse. The field is required if the Use serial numbers as inventory record details checkbox is selected in the settings as well.
The field can contain a hint "Specify in Goods receipt". This indicates that a credit note does not record physical return of the products to a warehouse. To record it, you will need to create a goods receipt and specify product serial numbers in it.
Unit A product unit of measure.
Initial quantity The number of product units shipped to a customer according to a credit note's Base document.
Price A product price according to a credit note's Base document.
Initial amount The total amount paid for the number of product units shipped to a customer according to a credit note's Base document.
Return quantity The quantity of returned product units.
Adjusted amount The amount paid for the returned product units.
Tax The VAT rate and amount.
The Tax field is available if both of the following conditions are met:
  • The company’s accounting policy states that the company is registered for VAT (the Registered for VAT checkbox is selected on the Finance tab of the accounting policy).
  • Tax category is Domestic rates VAT in a credit note's Prices and currency settings.
Total The total amount paid for the returned product units.
This amount is after VAT if VAT is applicable. Otherwise, it matches the Adjusted amount.
A company's accounts receivable are adjusted by this amount.
COGS The cost of product items sold. It is in the presentation currency.
If a credit note's currency differs from a company's presentation currency, the presentation currency is shown.
Order A sales order that a credit note is created for.
It is used to track accounts receivable and accounts payable by order.
A sales order is automatically filled in if a credit note's Base document is based on the sales order. It is not recommended to change the sales order manually.
GL accounts GL accounts applied to account for inventory, VAT output, cost of the goods sold (COGS), and sales return.
It is available if the default accounting is applied (Use default type of accounting is selected in Settings > Company).
Income and expense items Income and expense items for recording cost of the goods sold (COGS) and sales return.
Taxable Indicates whether the sales tax is applied to a credit note line.
The checkbox is selected automatically if the Taxable checkbox is selected for a product in a credit note's Base document.
The checkbox is available if the company's accounting policy states that the sales tax is applied to the company's sales transactions (the Registered for a sales tax permit checkbox is selected on the Finance tab of the accounting policy).
Project / Project phase A project or project phase that the transaction lines recorded by this document are related to.
The field value is populated to documents generated from this document if they have the Project / Project phase field.
The field value can be used for recording and tracking income and expenses by project or project phase. This applies if the Track income and expenses by project phase checkbox is selected in the project settings.

The field is available if the following conditions are met:
  • The Project-based accounting checkbox is selected in Settings > Company.
  • In the credit note, Operation is Sales return.
  • The Project/Project phase field position is set to In tabular section in the credit note settings (More actions > Settings).
The project list is based on the Projects catalog.

All the amounts, except COGS, are in the currency specified in the credit note's Prices and currency settings, in the Document field of the Currency section.
