A business calendar defines working days, weekend days, and holidays within a year. A business calendar can be one of the following:

  • Federal. Applies to all companies across the county. Includes working days, weekend days, and federal holidays.
  • Regional. Applies to all companies in a country’s region. Includes working days, weekend days, federal and regional holidays.

A business calendar is a source of data for filling in work schedules of companies.

To manage business calendars, go to Production > Catalogs > Business calendars. You can do the following:

Viewing business calendars

To view business calendars:

  • Go to Production > Catalogs > Business calendars.

The Business calendars list shows the business calendar details. The details can vary depending on the list settings. By default, the following details are available:

  • Description. A business calendar name or short description.
  • Code. A business calendar ID.

To view a business calendar:

  • Double-click a business calendar line.

Creating business calendars

Create a business calendar for each new year. You can populate a business calendar with the data from a predefined calendar. The predefined calendar is a 5-day workweek calendar. Each workweek starts on Monday. Saturdays and Sundays are marked as non-working days.

You can edit the data populated from the predefined calendar according to your business needs or local legislation. You have the following options:

  • Change date types. For instance, set a date as holiday or set a weekend day as a working day due to the increased workload.
  • Shift dates. For instance, shift a holiday to another date.

To create a business calendar:

  1. Go to Production > Catalogs > Business calendars.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Enter or select the following:
    Field Description
    Description A business calendar name or short description.
    Code A business calendar ID.

    You can find a business calendar by ID in the Business calendars list.

    Year

    A business calendar year.

    It is a regional calendar Indicates that this calendar is regional.
    Federal calendar

    The federal calendar that is the basis for the regional calendar. The regional calendar is populated with data from this calendar. Then you can edit it according to your local legislation.

    The list of federal calendars includes all business calendars with the It is a regional calendar checkbox cleared.

  4. Click Fill by default.
  5. If needed, change date type or shift dates.
  6. Click Save and close.

Changing date types

In a business calendar, you can set a date as a holiday or a working day. For instance, fill in a regional business calendar with the federal calendar data and then set local holidays. In another case, you might want to set a weekend day as a working day to meet your business needs.

To set dates as holidays or working days, change the types of these dates. To do this:

  1. In a business calendar, do one of the following:
    • Right-click a date and select Change day.
    • Select a date and at the top of the window, click Change day.
  2. From the drop-down list, select a date type. Any of the following:
    • Working. A normal working day.
    • Saturday.
    • Sunday.
    • Preholiday. A day preceding a holiday. For example, preholiday days might be shorter than normal working days.
    • Holiday. A day declared as non-working by federal or local authorities.
    • Non-working. A day declared as non-working for another reason. For example, by decision of your company's CEO.

Shifting dates

Federal or local authorities can shift a holiday to another date. For instance, a holiday that falls on Sunday can be shifted on Monday. In this case, shift the date in your business calendar. To do this:

  1. In a business calendar, do one of the following:
    • Right-click a date and select Shift day.
    • Select a date and at the top of the window, click Shift day.
  2. In the Select replacement date window, select the target date for shifting the selected date.
  3. Click OK.

Copying business calendars

You can copy and edit a business calendar instead of creating it from scratch. To do this:

  1. Go to Production > Catalogs > Business calendars.
  2. In the Business calendars list, select a business calendar that you want to copy.
  3. Click copy_calendar.png.

Edit the copied business calendar as described in Creating business calendars.

Editing business calendars

To edit a business calendar:

  1. Go to Production > Catalogs > Business calendars.
  2. In the Business calendars list, select a business calendar.
  3. Edit the business calendar details as described in Creating business calendars.
The changes made to a business calendar can be automatically applied to work schedules based on this business calendar. This occurs if the Consider holidays checkbox is selected for these work schedules. If any of these work schedules is assigned to a work center involved in production planning, you might need to update the work center availability schedule and reschedule operations for production orders.
