Creating work-in-progress documents
To create a work-in-progress document, generate it from a production order.
A generated work-in-progress document is fully prefilled, including all component and operation data and a link to the source document. This saves your time on data input, eliminates human error, and ensures the document traceability.
A work-in-progress document reflects manufacturing of a single product. So, if a production order contains multiple products, you can generate multiple work-in-progress documents from it (one per product).
To generate work-in-progress documents from a production order:
- Go to Production.
- Under Production, click Production orders.
This displays the list of production orders. - In the list, click a production order that has Process type set to Production. Then, click Generate > Work-in-progress.
This displays the list of products to be manufactured under this production order. - If you want to view operations required to manufacture each product, select Show operations above the list.
- If you have some of the products already available at your warehouses and want to specify how many units to manufacture and how many to get from stock, select the Consider available balance checkbox.
The following information is displayed for each product:- Total quantity required to fulfill the production order.
- Quantity available in stock at your warehouses.
- Quantity to produce. You can edit this value.
Example: A production order requires you to produce 10 chairs. You have 2 chairs in stock. The quantity remaining to produce is 8 chairs by default, but you can increase it to 9 or 10 so that less stock is used for this order.
- If you want a subcontractor to manufacture some of the products, set Production method to Subcontracting for these products.
- Select the Generate checkbox for each product for which you want to generate a work-in-progress document.
Note. Some of the products in the production order may have a work-in-progress document already generated. These products have the related work-in-progress document names displayed on their lines, and you cannot select the Generate checkbox for them. - Click Generate Work-in-progress.
A separate work-in-progress document is generated for each selected product.
The generated documents are stored in the Work-in-progress list.
The documents are completely prefilled but you can edit them if necessary.
