How to update 1C:Enterprise Platform when a configuration update requires it

Question: I have my 1C:Drive 1.4.4.3 version configuration infobase reside on the 1C:Enterprise Server version 8.3.16.1876. The latest version of 1C:Drive, 1.5.1.6, requires the 1C:Enterprise Server version 8.3.22.1750 installed. How should I update to the new 1C:Drive 1.5.1.6?

Answer: Please follow these steps:

  1. Create a backup copy of the infobase via DBMS (i.e. SQL Server).
  2. OPTIONAL: If you are not planning to use the platform version 8.3.16.1876 for any other purpose (for example, for working in file mode), you can uninstall it. Uninstallation is not mandatory though. When you install the 1C:Enterprise Server version 8.3.22.1750, it will automatically remove the server settings of the earlier version and register itself as the only 1C:Enterprise Server anyway.
  3. Install 1C:Enterprise Server version 8.3.22.1750 as a service. It is recommended that you use the existing user account USR1CV8 to start the service, so during installation, select user USR1CV8. You will need to provide the password for this user.
  4. Open the 1C:Drive 1.4.4.3 infobase in Designer and click the upper right “i” icon in Designer's toolbar to check that the infobase has been opened with the new 8.3.22.1750 platform.
  5. In Designer, update 1C:Drive infobase to version 1.5.1.6.

IMPORTANT: While updating the infobase or commencing any other procedure, never use .dt files to move data between different 1C:Enterprise Platform versions. (For example, saving the infobase to .dt file using platform version 8.3.22.1750 and afterwards loading this file to another infobase using platform version 8.3.16.1876) This will very likely corrupt the infobase beyond repair. Ideally, all backup and restore should be made using the DBMS functionality only.

OPTIONAL: If you want to simultaneously run multiple 1C:Enterprise Server Agent services that have different minor versions of the same major version, such as 8.3.16.1876 and 8.3.22.1750 (so that for example you can use an earlier version of 1C:Drive on the earlier platform version, meanwhile testing a later 1C:Drive version on the later platform version), see this article: How to set up two minor versions of 1C:Enterprise Platform to work simultaneously on the same computer in client/server mode
