How to Reserve Out-of-Stock Materials for Production
In production processes involving a large number of materials, even the lack of sufficient quantities of one material can interrupt the process. Since other products may be consumed by other processes until the missing products are completed, it is a necessity to reserve the respective products for incomplete production processes. 1C:Drive allows the reservation of both available and out-of-stock products. Below is an example of how to reserve missing products in particular.
Sample Case
The following is a bill of materials for the production of Final Product with a single-step production process:
- 2 x Material A
- 5 x Material B
Although there are 100 units of Material A in stock at the moment, Material B is not available. Hence, the production of Final Product cannot be completed. These two materials must be reserved both to ensure that Material A will be available when Material B comes into stock and to inform the purchasing department about the shortage of Material B. Available and unavailable materials can be reserved by following the steps:
- Create a production order for Final Product and fill in the necessary details.
- Set the lifecycle status of the order to 'In progress', then post it.
- Generate a work-in-progress document from the order.
- Go to 'Components' tab in the work-in-progress.
- Fill in 'Reservation' column:
- To reserve only available products, you can use Reservation > Fill in column feature.
- To reserve all materials regardless of their availability, specify values manually.
- Go to 'Main' tab and change document status to 'In progress'.
- Select No in the prompted dialog box.

Note: If you choose 'Yes', operations related to this work-in-progress document will be started. So, the system will try to consume the corresponding materials instead of reserving them. As Material B is out of stock, you cannot post the document. - Post the document.
When we check the Available stock report in the 'Warehouse' subsystem, we can confirm that the relevant products are reserved:
